Veriff: Why is the ID rejected?

When verifying identity through Uniify, we use Veriff technology to validate passports or driver's licenses. If an ID is rejected, it is usually because the image quality does not meet the security standards required by Veriff’s AI to guarantee authenticity.

Here are the 5 most common reasons for rejection:

1. Photos must be taken "live" (in real-time)

Veriff does not allow the upload of existing photos or screenshots from the phone's gallery.

Solution: A fresh photo of the ID must be taken using the camera directly within the flow. This ensures that the physical document is present.

2. Poor lighting or blurry images

If the photo is shaky or the lighting is poor, the system cannot read the fine security features such as watermarks and micro-text.

Solution: Use a well-lit room (natural light is best) and hold the phone steady while taking the photo.

3. Glare on the document surface

Using a flash or bright indoor lighting can cause white spots (glare) on the plastic surface, making the data unreadable for Veriff.

Solution: Tilt the document slightly to avoid direct reflections and turn off the flash.

4. Document obstructed or cropped

If fingers cover the text or if a corner is cut off in the frame, it will be rejected immediately.

Solution: Place the document on a flat surface and ensure all four corners are visible within the camera frame.

5. Expired or incorrect document type

Veriff automatically checks validity. If an expired passport is used or a driver's license is uploaded when a passport was requested, the process will fail.

Solution: Check the expiration date and ensure the document type matches what is specified in the flow.
